Entry #13 - Latin American Monument

We went to the Latin American Monument, or as it should be called the Just Some Countries in Latin America Monument. Although it's a really interesting piece of the city and it has a well organized, why would you build a monument for Latin America and not include pieces from Latin American countries?  I didn't feel offended that they didn't have any exhibitions for Venezuela (my home country), but I think it's just a matter of common sense. Therefore, it really seemed more like an incomplete monument.

Other than the lack of exhibitions for some countries, the pieces that were actually there were fantastic. I specially liked all the traditional clothing they had for some countries like Brazil and Guatemala. However, the best part of the museum was the scale model of Latin America. It was like a glass box below the floor.

There are a lot of religious pieces of art, which show the importance of religion within each country's culture. My personal favorite was the stand where they had all the patron virgin Mary for each of the countries.

On the exterior part of the monument, there was a statue of a hand with Latin America's map on it. This was designed by Oscar Niemeyer, who was a Brazilian architect who designed all this monument and all the city of Brasilia. Other cool features of this sites was the library where you find many books, magazines and other resources related to Latin America.

I wouldn't say this is a must go, but it's definitely worthwhile going there if you are interested in Latin American culture, or simply if you feel like taking really good iconic picture of Sao Paulo.
