Entry #14 - Feijoada

Yesterday, I finally tried the feijoada. This is a traditional Brazilian dish that is usually ate on Saturdays.  The feijoada is a stew with black beans, pork and beef. Although, there are many variations to this combination so it depends on where in Brazil you eat. In Sao Paulo, they usually serve it like I said before. In addition, it comes with other food that complete this dish like rice, fried pork, fried bananas, orange and vegetables. I must say that I wanted to eat it just for the sake of trying it. However, it turned out to be a great surprise, and ended up being the food I've had so far in Brazil.

The owner of the hostel we are staying at recommended us a restaurant called Boteco do Valdir. Overall great location (Moema neighborhood), pleasant ambiance and terrific food. Definitely a must go.

This restaurant only offers feijoada on Saturdays. You can order it for one person or either two or three people. Though, I should warn you that it is really big so if you are planning to eat it, don't order any appetizers before.

The price of the feijoada at this restaurant ranged from 40 to 80 reais depending on how many people you order it for.

Here's the website and the address of this restaurant if anyone wants to go:
